Frequently asked questions about home health aides
Do I need a referral from a doctor?
No, you do not need a referral from a doctor. We accept inquiries from anyone participating in someone’s care, self-referrals, and VA referrals.
Does insurance cover home health aides?
Coverage can vary depending on your insurance plan, medical needs, and the type of care required. In general:
- Skilled nursing services are often covered when medically necessary and prescribed by a physician
- Medicaid programs, including the MI Choice Waiver Program, may cover long-term in-home care for eligible individuals
- Some private insurance plans may offer partial coverage for home health services
You don’t have to navigate it alone—our team will help you review your coverage, explore available programs, and guide you through the process. Get in touch with our experts.
What is the intake / onboarding process, and how long does it take?
Once we receive your inquiry, we’ll set up a time to meet with the client in their home. This onboarding process takes about 2 hours on average. Depending on needs and availability, it can take 1–2 weeks to have a Home Health Aide (HHA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) begin services.
If my loved one's condition changes, can we increase or decrease the service hours?
Yes. Times and hours are flexible to meet the needs of our patients. We’d appreciate as much notice as possible so we can adequately meet your requests.
